Description
MACEDON, Koinon of Macedon. temp. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ (27mm, 10.60 g, 12h). Beroea mint. Head of Alexander the Great right, wearing lion’s skin headdress / Olympias, as Hygieia, seated left; feeding serpent from patera, resting arm on back of throne. RPC VII.2.238 (this coin); AMNG III 550 var. (bust). Dark green patina, edge flaw, reverse pits. VF. Extremely rare, only this coin known to RPC.
